Athletics at VVS are competitive and non-competitive, mainstream & alternative. The weather is perfect for outdoor activities all year, so that is usually where you will find us. The red rocks of Sedona are our gym. Our facilities include an outdoor basketball court, soccer field, riding stables, rock-climbing wall, fitness center, and dance space. Golf and tennis facilities are nearby.
Our co-ed soccer team has three league championships in three years under its belt. The team plays competitively in the Northern Arizona Athletic Association on one of the most beautiful fields in the country. The emphasis in practice remains on inclusion, improving skills, teamwork, and having fun.
With 30 horses in our school herd we are able to offer afternoon horseback riding on the beginner, intermediate and expert levels. Students can take trail rides each afternoon or chose a day or two to work on their English riding skills in our arena. Competition is open to most riders with monthly gymkhanas with the Central Verde Gymkhana Association and English competitions in Flagstaff and Scottsdale. Riders can also take group, full-moon rides.
We play competitive basketball during the winter trimester as part of the Northern Arizona Athletic Association. The other two trimesters per year are spent on pick-up games and skills building on our outdoor court.
Our runners spend afternoons in the first trimester running on the scenic trails around our campus on a variety of terrains. Our team are currently both the girls and boys division champions in the Northern Arizona Athletic Association.
Our dance program is student organized and choreographed and touches on many styles of dance, including hip hop, ballet and jazz. Dancers practice twice a week and perform for the school throughout the year.
Golfers play at the nearby Sedona Golf Resort where they work one-on-one with a pro twice a week. Students are also welcome to play at the resort on weekends. Competition is reserved for the spring trimester.
