B.A. in English Literature, University of California, Berkeley
M.A. in English Literature, San Francisco State University
Following her graduation from VVS in 1970, Patty earned her B.A. (University of California, Berkeley) and M.A. (San Francisco State University) in English Literature. She found herself in the editing business, moving from proofreading at a real estate investment firm to copyediting law books, to copyediting monthly newsstand magazines about computers and high-tech companies. But the music bug had never left her, and in 1996 she took up the electric bass and began playing blues, Cajun/zydeco, and R&B with friends who were professional musicians—and she began to gig. She found an appropriate new day job as the managing editor of the national music magazine Electronic Musician. In 2007, after ten years at EM, she traded in her red pencils for a Fender Jazz bass and now plays music for a living, but still does some freelance editing on the side.
She leads her own band, Kickin’ the Mule (www.reverbnation.com/kickinthemule) and plays in several other local blues, jazz, and New Orleans R&B groups. She lives in Albany, CA, with her two Australian shepherds, Rosie and Gracie.
