PREPARING FOR THE 2017/18 SCHOOL YEARJuly 21, 2017
Dear VVS Parents:
I hope this letter finds you well and you are enjoying time with your child. I have heard from a number of students and the patterned response is, “Paul, I am so bored, I miss everyone, and I can’t wait to get back to VVS.” I cannot recall at any other school in my thirty plus years where students are as excited for summer to end. A parent remarked to me last week, “What do you all have in the water there? My son cannot wait to get back.” That is as tangible an example as any on what is special and unique about our multi-national community. Our community is a reflection of the way the world should be, and while our students and staff all provide diversity and differing backgrounds, when you put us all together on this dramatic landscape, we are one. We need each other. We miss one another. Hurry back kids!
Summer is certainly heating up in the red rocks of Sedona. After an eternity of sunny and very hot days tipping 105 degrees, we are enjoying slightly cooler weather with temps in the low 90’s. The campus is buzzing with activity. This week we have enjoyed 100 campers ages, 8 – 18, participating in an elite soccer camp. This Sunday begins the 2017 version of the Sedona Summer Colony with artists from all over the world descending on campus to breathe, create, and discover their next muse.
While we are still enjoying the summer schedule and pace, a few weeks from now we will begin staff meetings and prepare for the arrival of 120 students from all over the world. I assure you we will be ready. I am getting a little stir crazy and look forward to this coming year.
Recently you have received emails from our Admissions Office team containing important back-to-school information and documents. It’s important that you review and where necessary, submit any forms or surveys attached in those emails. We will continue to send you reminders if you have any missing forms including travel information, health forms, and please look carefully at the calendar for the first week , the regular weekly schedule, and the school year calendar. There are a number of activities specifically for parents. Please join us whenever possible.
If you have any questions, please contact our admissions director, Sean Fagan, at firstname.lastname@example.org or call the Main Office 928-284-2272 between 11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Arizona time, weekdays.
In closing, I want to express my sincere thank you for entrusting your child to our care. We take that responsibility seriously and look forward to the many opportunities to share their achievements at VVS with you. A special thank you to the many parents who have opened their hearts, doors, and voices to me over the past two years. Each and every conversation has been important and helpful. Your advise and counsel are helping me do a better job. So keep at it – let me know what is working and what I need to do better.
Enjoy the remaining few weeks of summer!
