James was born and raised among the beautiful green mountains in Rutland, Vermont. Moving with his family to the warm sunny beaches of Florida during middle school, James completed his high school studies at Clearwater High School before matriculating to the University of South Florida. At the University of South Florida in Tampa, James graduated Magna cum Laude with a Bachelors of Arts degree in English Literature, completing over 60 credit hours in literature and writing courses. After graduating from college he began his career teaching in Tampa, becoming the district’s youngest English Department Chair at the age of 25. In 1998 James earned a Master’s Degree in English Curriculum and Instruction, also, at the University of South Florida. During his teaching tenure in Tampa, he taught at his first International Baccalaureate High School, teaching IB Theory of Knowledge at nationally ranked Hillsborough High School. In 2001 he was offered an opportunity to teach at the prestigious Atlanta International School. James served as the Head of English, Head of Grade 10, and as the chair of numerous academic and accreditation committees during his six-year tenure at AIS. While teaching at Atlanta International, he earned a second Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Georgia State University. In 2007 James was appointed the founding principal for Wesley International Academy, a K-8 International Baccalaureate charter school offering both the IB Primary Years and Middle Years Programmes, in conjunction with single-gender classrooms and a thriving Mandarin second language program. In 2009 James returned to Tampa to serve for five years as Assistant Principal at King High School, another IB World School. James comes to VVS with 15 years of teaching and 7 years of administrative experience. He is delighted to join the VVS family of educators who are all dedicated to delivering a student-centered, experiential, hands-on learning experience for all students.
