Jean O’Neil comes to Verde Valley School from Dalian American International School, Dalian, China where she headed the Visual Arts Department for four years.
She brings over 20 years of experience as an exhibiting artist and educator. Her versatility as an artist, educator and arts administrator is reflected in some of her past professional positions as: Art Specialist, Admissions Counselor and Assistant Director of Admissions at California College of the Arts, Darrow School’s Art Department Chair and Director of the Joline Art Center. Jean received her B.S. from Keene State College in Education and Studio Art. She later received her M.Ed. from City University of Seattle in Creative Arts Curriculum and Instruction. In 2009, City University recruited her to teach for the Albright College of Education. As an Associate Faculty member, she taught Creative Arts Integration, Multicultural Curriculum Integration, and was also a student teacher, Field Supervisor. Jean is a nationally exhibiting visual artist who is committed to supporting community based visual arts programs. As a Southwest Washington Community Commission and CTRAN Community Arts Grant recipient, Jean was able to forge community alliances instituting ongoing visual arts service learning opportunities. Jean’s enthusiasm and commitment to the visual arts are best described in her own words: “Art is for everyone, connecting to every facet of the current and past cultures of our global community. Art crosses all cultural and economic boundaries. Where words often stumble, art dances.”
