Lauren Kelley rejoined the Verde Valley School faculty in 2018 with 14 years of teaching at other institutions across the country and abroad. Lauren directs the Experiential Education Program at VVS, a group of programs that challenges students to grow as people, not just thinkers. Work Jobs, Field Trips, Project Period, Outdoor Education and other programs demand that VVS students try out their theories, roll up their sleeves, and push themselves to personal frontiers. Lauren is proud of the grit, resilience, and wisdom these experiences grow in VVS students. In addition to her administrative work, Lauren teaches IBHL English and Theory of Knowledge courses.
Beyond her work at VVS, Lauren has directed a Global Scholars Program and taught religion, philosophy, and globalization courses at White Mountain School and Fountain Valley School of Colorado. Outside the classroom, Lauren has worked with young people as a mountain guide, whitewater river guide, educational facilitator in maximum security prisons, and farmer on an educational organic dairy.
Though she loves to bounce ideas around a room and pour over elegant sentences, Lauren is just as passionate about getting outside. When not teaching she can be found running the trails of Sedona or running after her twins, Neve and Elias. She lives on campus with her husband, John Kelley, Assistant Head of School. The Kelleys are honored to call Verde Valley home.
