Nathan first connected with the beauty of nature through the rolling cornfields and tall forests of Lancaster, PA, where sincere farmers model an honest life well-lived. After exploring architecture, acting, and music as possible vocations, he ended up focusing on what had always been a clear love: foreign languages.
Nathan cut his teeth teaching English in Paris, where he first discovered how all-encompassing language instruction really is. Throughout teaching stints in Sierra Leone, Benin, and boarding schools in the US, he has always enjoyed weaving art, music, history, literature, and even social media into his projects. Seeing students develop a love for language through cultural inquiry is what he considers the sweetness of teaching.
Reading, journaling, and bombastic orchestral symphonies by the likes of Mahler and Tchaikovsky keep Nathan inspired in his free time. Wherever his decades-long wanderlust has taken him on a shoestring budget, from Swaziland to Sweden, the memories of local landscapes catalog each adventure, and interactions with locals leave him in awe at human beings’ remarkable ability to overcome adversity.
