Associate Director of Admission
BA in Japanese and Spanish, University of Montana
One of Shannon’s favorite aspects of life at Verde Valley School is that on campus, the world comes to her! Before joining the VVS crew, Shannon traveled extensively as a teacher, student, guide, and tourist. As a result of her passion for travel and communication, she speaks Spanish, Portuguese, and Japanese. Before Verde Valley School, Shannon worked as a traveling teacher and Logistical Program Director for an all girls traveling boarding school called The Traveling School. With The Traveling School, she led trips throughout Latin America and Sub-Saharan Africa off and on for four years. She also worked as a personal tutor/logistical/linguistic support for an American family of five traveling through Japan, South Africa, and Brazil for the entire school year. Through both of these teaching experiences, she learned the importance and necessity of weaving her students’ surroundings into the curriculum she teaches as a way to create relevance in every subject matter. When she wasn’t jet setting, Shannon worked at a therapeutic boarding school called Montana Academy as a Direct Care Staff. It was there where she grew to understand the importance and need for structure and emotional literacy in her students’ lives as a base to thrive in their academically and emotionally rigorous lives at high school.
Shannon truly believes that the combination of her skill set and love for the outdoors makes her a perfect member of the VVS team. She is easily inspired and thinks that most things are funny. This being the case, she is endlessly engaged, entertained, and grateful for her life here.
