T has been teaching English and Theater in public and private schools for twenty-four years. T is passionate about language, both written and spoken, its mechanics and its expressive power. He draws his students into the ongoing literary conversation, exposes them to multiple genres of writing, and encourages them to craft unique contributions of their own. T believes every one of us has something to say, something we need to hear, something we can learn from no one else.
T’s interests include playwriting, acting, storytelling, and participating in the occasionally difficult conversations that facilitate our living together with peace and justice. T is an author whose self-published memoir, Boy in the Ivy, recounts his journey as a suicide loss survivor, and he has spoken about suicide, depression, and the importance of asking for help at schools, conferences, and churches around the country. He also performs stand-up comedy and participates in storytelling events whenever he can. Big picture, T is committed to empowering all voices in a vibrant, diverse, and inclusive community.
Finally, T is a husband and father who, having emptied the nest and entered the second half of life, is particularly excited about the unique opportunities VVS has to offer. He and his wife Gracia have long felt a connection to the land and people of the American Southwest, and in many ways this new chapter of their life together feels like coming home.
