New Interim Dean of Students AnnouncedDecember 5, 2017
At last Friday’s Community Meeting I introduced Verde Valley School’s new Interim Dean of Students. I imagine some of your students have shared the news, but I wanted to take a moment to share the announcement with our families as well.
After several weeks of interviews with a variety of quality candidates, it is my pleasure to introduce you all to Kim Hollingsworth, our Interim Dean of Students.
Kim, and her husband Kelly, joined us on December 1st. She will reside in what was Dana’s office. VVS is so lucky that Kim is able to join us mid year!
A huge thank you must go to our staff for their extra efforts as we navigated through this long stretch without a Dean. Schools like VVS depend on the leadership of the Dean of Students for so many things and I am well aware that everyone stepped up on this campus. I also appreciate the support and generosity of our families for their patience and help. THANK YOU.
I am very optimistic that Kim will make a positive impact immediately and hit the ground running. She understands the role having spent many years as a Dean of Students and in residential life leadership in boarding environments. Through each experience she has demonstrated over and over again the critical qualities required to be a great Dean of Students.
Kim has an extensive career in independent education having served schools for more than 18 years in a multitude of educational settings. She began her career teaching in public school and still holds her secondary teaching certification. However, she quickly found her passion working in the private setting and has spent the last 14 years working primarily in college preparatory boarding schools in Arizona and the Northeast. Kim has served as Residential Dean, Dean of Girls, Associate of Admissions, Admissions Director, Academic Technology Coordinator, Support Services Coordinator, Behavior Specialist, and Dean of Students at several boarding schools, including The Orme School, White Mountain School, The MacDuffie School, and Oak Creek Ranch School.
Kim has an exceptional background in adolescent development, including expertise in the development of residential life curriculums, student wellness, and conflict resolution. Kim and her husband Kelly fit the VVS culture in all ways. Kelly has also served as a Head House Parent, Athletic Director, and Outdoor Leadership Director at boarding schools.
Kim most recently was Dean of Students at Oak Creek Ranch School, and was Dean of Girls and Associate Dean of Residential Life at The Orme School. So, Kim knows VVS and Sedona. She is described as having the “highest integrity in her work with students and staff, and that she is able to make students feel cared for without favoritism, and build healthy relationships with students.” All critical qualities for a VVS Dean of Students.
When not working, Kim can be found outdoors with her husband, hiking, backpacking, and camping. She also shares this love of the outdoors with her students and has led many outdoor adventures throughout her career.
Kim has her B.A. in Secondary Education from ASU, and her MEd in Human Relations and a Graduate Certificate in Positive Behavior Support from NAU.
Please join me and all of us here at VVS in welcoming Kim and Kelly aboard!
